About Tuhon

Tuhon Brandon Jordan was born in the midwest in Kansas. He began his studies of the martial arts at the age of 5 with a cousin who introduced him the the basics of Shorin Ryu Karate, and later a gym coach who taught him Judo self-defense. This initial exposure ignited a growing thirst for knowledge that would lead him to many teachers and methods spanning a wide spectrum of cultural expressions of combative, healing, and meditative practices.
Tuhon Jordan is the founder of the Mandala Mandirigma Derobio Escrima system which was established in 2003 and recognized formally since 2004 as one of the five main systems teaching Derobio Escrima today. In August of 2017 after nearly 27 years of solid practice and teaching Derobio worldwide; Tuhon Jordan ascended to the final level of Master of Derobio presented to him by Grandmaster Dan Medina, Grandmasters Gary and Leslie Largo and Knut Peacock. This places him as one of the highest ranked authorities of Derobio in the world and a direct Inheritor.
Additionally in 2017 after 13 years of having not seen his primary KunTao Silat teacher Guru Besar George Morin yet continuing to work and evolve on his own Tuhon Jordan and Guru Morin were reunited at a martial arts seminar that Tuhon Jordan was teaching with students in San Francisco. Upon witnessing the teaching progression, self-development, and progress of Tuhon Jordan's students, Guru Besar Morin granted him his blessing as a completed and qualified practitioner with permission for Tuhon Jordan to place his own family name upon his practice of KunTao Silat as lineage head.
A talented and knowledgeable instructor and student of various martial and spiritual arts for over 30 years, his quest for knowledge has literally taken him around the country and world many times to learn, research, study, teach and initiate; Los Angeles, Albuquerque, Virginia Beach, Denver, Kansas City, Hawaii, Miami, San Francisco, and Oakland, to name a few, as well as London, Paris, Mexico, Germany, and West Africa.
After over 30 years of dedicated practice Tuhon Jordan has earned multiple high ranking in several styles. Most notably, he is recognized as the Inheritor with the distinguished title of "Master of Derobio" of the Majapai Derobio Escrima method of Grandmaster Dan Medina, as featured in the recently released book, “The Secret Art of Derobio Escrima: A Martial art of the Philippines”. GM Medina, himself a direct student and disciple of the late GGM Pedoy, shares an over twenty-five year history with Tuhan Jordan and has been his adopted father from his early formative years as a teenager when he was accepted as the only "live-in disciple" of Grandmaster Medina.

From his own words, “Teaching the martial arts isn’t solely about me or my personal abilities, but rather I play my role as a teacher in developing others in helping them to face and overcome their own personal challenges through the medium of martial arts practice while also honing the combative skills that may save their lives or the lives of others should the need arise. It is this view that informs the unique approach to practice that I in turn share with my own students.” |
